Find out when even a simple infection requires medical attention.
While not all sicknesses will require a medical visit, it’s important to understand when to turn to our Brandon, FL, primary care physicians Drs. Joel and Elizabeth Biggers for care.
What is an acute disease?
An acute condition, unlike a chronic disease, is one that often comes about suddenly but will go away with time. Sometimes the acute disease will attack certain areas of the body, though it can still occur throughout. Many times, acute diseases will go away on their own without treatment; however, sometimes treatment is necessary to treat the infection or to manage your symptoms.
Common types of acute diseases include,
- Strep throat
- Common cold
- Broken bones
- Heart attack
As you can see, acute diseases really run the gamut. For example, a common cold won’t require medication and will run its course all by itself, while appendicitis often requires immediate surgery to remove the appendix. Some acute diseases such as a heart attack also require emergency medical attention.
